Oliver: Fresh 48 Newborn Session

February 26, 2019

I have to pinch myself all the time – I literally get to spend my weeks photographing expecting mamas, births, newborns and families, then editing them in the quiet of my office! If you could see my face while I edit, smiling like an idiot at my monitor while I cull and edit all these wonderful families – you would laugh! Sometimes I realize I don’t actually know how long I’ve been smiling back at a screen! Ha!

This session I photographed sweet new baby Oliver, less than 48 hours old, fresh to the world! These newborn sessions are called “Fresh 48 Newborn Sessions,” done within 48 hours after birth in the hospital – and sometimes at home if mama goes home early, or if she just needs an extra day or two before doing photographs. They are short 45 minute sessions designed to be quick and calm, to capture all the newness of this time that very likely mom and dad will forget (because they are in survival – overtired mode!). Every single one of my families is so happy they decided to invest in this session, mentioning later that they had no idea that their baby would grow so fast! They never can believe it until that first week goes by in a blink and baby has already changed so much! We get photos of mom and dad with baby, each holding him/her, individual baby shots, and if there are siblings, we can arrange for me to be there the very first time they meet their little one – it is magical! The sessions can be whatever you want them to be. I encourage moms to just do what is natural – if it’s time to feed baby them we get shots of that, sometimes mama wants skin to skin images which are absolutely breathtaking – and I only ever share what she is comfortable with me sharing.

Just about 2 years ago Wentworth Douglass Hospital approached me asking if I would be interested in becoming their newborn photographer; without hesitation I said yes, of course! I knew that there are approximately 1200 births at WDH per year, and that I could never handle even 50% of them on my own, so I reached out to Mercy Street Studio to see if they would like to join me in this adventure, and here we are, two years later, working together – it’s awesome! We are currently running a spring special of $199 for a 30 minute session and 3 high resolution digital negatives, and an option purchase the full gallery (This is a special listed on our fliers, not on the website, but please ask for it when booking!). You can see all our packages here: www.fresh48.photos or right through the Wentworth Douglass Hospital Birth Center web page!
